Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet Review

Following on from the events of Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is a third-person role-playing game published by Bandai Namco and developed by Dimps.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the franchise; Sword Art Online is a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara. Since April 2010, the series has produced eight manga adaptations, an anime television show and four video games.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Review

Plenty of Fun - 4.4 / 5

As an enthusiast of the open-world genre, I was pretty excited to get my hands on Middle-earth: Shadow of War. The first instalment in the Lord of the Rings spinoff was a surprising success back in 2014, with critics and fans heaping praise upon its excellent combat mechanics and distinctive characters. Much like its predecessor, Shadow of War is a game of gargantuan proportions; a vast open-world adventure full of monsters all eager to kill you off.

While the last decade has seen games of this ilk improve with bigger maps and better graphics, Shadow of Mordor‘s Nemesis System was, in my opinion, the most innovative idea brought to the open-world genre in the last ten years. Although it’s surprising other RPG’s haven’t gone down the route of creating their own type of Nemesis System, pleasingly, it returns in Shadow of War; bigger and more enthralling than ever.

The Division - Delayed Again

The Division is landing March 8, 2016

Ubisoft showcased The Division again during their games conference at E3 over the weekend. The upcoming instalment in the Tom Clancy series finally has a release date of March 8, 2016.

The game was expected to be released in 2014 but has kept being pushed back for various reasons by developers Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Massive, and Ubisoft Annecy. The open-world RPG has been eagerly anticipated since it was first announced, with several trailers highlighting the game's extensive multiplayer mode and gorgeous visuals.

Even though The Division has been pushed back, it is admirable that Ubisoft didn't release the game until it was ready, meaning they won't have to deal with an angry backlash from disgruntled consumers furious that they had released a bugged game. Of course, it's now in Ubisoft's best interests to make sure any issues with the game are completely ironed out before its release in March next year.

E3 2015: Ubisoft - South Park: Stick of Truth Sequel

C'mon down to South Park!

South Park: The Fractured But Whole was announced during Ubisoft's E3 game conference over the weekend, with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone taking to the stage to reveal the debut trailer.

The newest edition to the South Park video game series is the follow up to the successful South Park: The Stick of Truth and will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The game will be a RPG, turn-based combat adventure like its predecessor, and put you in control of a new character. The story will focus on Cartman's "The Coon" and friends, with Trey and Matt once again involved in the writing and voice acting.

Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny will no doubt be up to more mischief as you deal with life at South Park Elementary.

Button mashing mayhem! Persona 4 PS3 review

Who is Persona 4 Arena Ultimax designed for? Is it for fans of the Persona series and its brand of quirky characters, dense narrative, gruelling yet rewarding battle system and dating sim mechanics?

Or is it for fans of hardcore fighting games, those that reward endless hours mastering precise button combinations, repeated over and over until your fingers are bloody stumps of satisfaction from pulling off that finishing move? The answer is, of course, both and can even be extended to general fans of gaming, although the aforementioned groups will get the biggest kick out of it. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is billed as a sequel/update to the unexpectedly successful Persona 4 Arena, although the update label is doing it a disservice.

Developed by AquaPlus and published by ATLUS, Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord is the follow up to Japanese tactical role-playing game Tears to Tiara, originally released in 2005 for the PC, and again three years later on the PlayStation 3.

The original wasn't released in the west meaning Tears to Tiara II is the first in the series to make an appearance outside of Asia. Bursting with content and a thorough story, Heir of the Overlord is the latest addition to the Japanese tactical role-playing genre. Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord's story begins with the province of Hispania still struggling under the evil dominance of the Devine Empire. You take the role of a hard working young boy named Hamil, who suffers each day in heavy labour. One day, a girl named Tarte appears before Hamil and summons him to bear arms against the Imperial Empire, but Hamil prefers to keep his distance.

Fed to the sharks? Risen 3 Titan Lords review

Risen 3: Titan Lords, is the follow-up to 2012’s Risen 2: Dark Waters. In the latest RPG adventure, you play the son of Captain Steelbeard, a pirate who must reclaim his soul from the underworld after being killed and having it stolen by an evil shadow demon while hunting for treasure on a remote island.

After your death, you are laid to rest on an island by your crew, only to be brought back to life by a mysterious character named Bones and his Voodoo magic. Bones informs you that your soul has been stolen, but he is willing to help you get it back. However, to regain your soul, you must complete a number of quests, scattered across various locations. So is Risen 3 a swashbucklin’ adventure, or does it deserve to be fed to the sharks?

Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star review

You’d be forgiven for not knowing a great deal about Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star. Not simply because of the release and subsequent hype over Destiny this week, or that the annual FIFA has finally hit the shelves. You’d be forgiven because Ar Nosurge has had hardly any exposure or advertising; at least, outside of Asia.

JRPG’s are an interesting genre. The likes of Persona, Tales of Zestiria and, the most famous – Final Fantasy, are extremely popular and have all enjoyed commercial success. Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is the latest instalment in the JRPG genre, and while it doesn’t reach the same heights of some of its most well-known predecessors, it certainly makes up for it by matching their ambition.
